I guess this is the time when woman in labor needs the father of her child with her.
Men are kept out because child birth is considered impure and polluting. Then there is notion of shame is attached to the whole process of birthing. Then there are some crazy men who cannot be trusted around labor room. A decade ago I was visiting a sick friend in a private nursing home. I saw a man beating the poor doctor and the new woman because his wife had given birth to thrid daughter.

Now about childless by choice. It is not a US concept. There are many couples in Des who choose not be biological parents or even adopt a kid. Many freedom fighter come in this category. On top of my head comes the name of Vimla dang and Staya Dang. They devoted their life for the betterment of orphans and society.

From you statement:
However, having a bad child is any time better than not having children.

It seems you think the whole purpose of human existence and marriage is to procreate and those who do not are unhappy.

Blessings and love to the little one.

Peace,

Desi Girlgirlsguidetosurvivalhttp://girlsguidetosurvival.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15444979.post-67047042642585767042010-07-12T19:05:24.275-04:002010-07-12T19:05:24.275-04:00Thank you, Jaanvi. In India men are kept out (not kicked out ;-)) during the birth. I am sure there are valid reasons for that.

Child-less-by-choice! It will take me some time to digest this concept.
